Privacy policy

Draft for review. Last updated: [DATE].

FableUs makes personalized picture-book stories for children aged 3 to 9. It is used by parents and the children in their family. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read by grown-ups, in plain words.

The short version

  • We never show ads, and we never sell or share data for advertising.
  • Family photos are used once, in memory, to draw a storybook picture, and then thrown away. We don’t keep them.
  • Only a parent can set up the app, add family members, change settings or pay, behind a grown-ups-only check.
  • We collect the least we need to make stories, and you can ask us to delete everything.

Who is responsible

FableUs (“we”) is responsible for the data described here. Contact us at support@fableus.app.

What we collect

The parent account. When a parent signs in with Apple or Google, we receive an account ID and the email address that service shares with us. We use them to keep your family’s stories in one place.

Family members. For each family member a parent adds: a first name or nickname, who they are (child, grown-up, grandparent or pet), and optional details such as age, girl/boy and a short description. Names are used in story text only. They are never put into picture requests.

Photos. A parent may add a photo of a family member. The photo is checked for safety in memory, sent to our picture-making provider to draw one storybook portrait that looks like that person, and then discarded. We never store the photo, and we don’t keep face measurements or other biometric data.

Stories. The stories, pictures and narration we make for your family, the choices made while reading, and an optional story idea a grown-up types or speaks. Spoken ideas are turned into text on your device; no voice recording is sent to us.

Purchases. If you subscribe, Apple or Google handles the payment. We receive a proof of purchase linked to your account, never your card details.

Product analytics. To learn which parts of the app are used, the app sends events such as “a story was opened” to our server. They carry your account ID (or, before sign-in, a random ID made by the app), never names, photos, story text, device advertising IDs or IP addresses. We pass them to our analytics processor without IP addresses.

This website. fableus.app sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Each page view sends one event with a random ID that lives only while the page is open.

What we don’t do

No advertising, no ad or attribution tools, no tracking across other apps or websites, no selling of personal data, no public profiles, and no messaging with strangers.

Children

FableUs is designed for children with a parent in charge. Children don’t create accounts and can’t enter personal information. We collect children’s information only from the parent, with the parent’s consent, to make their family’s stories, as required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. A parent can review or delete their children’s information at any time.

Who helps us

We use service providers who process data only on our instructions: hosting and database (Supabase, Google Cloud, Firebase), story writing, pictures and narration (Google AI, Microsoft Azure Speech), product analytics (PostHog, EU region), and sign-in and payments (Apple, Google). We don’t allow them to use your data for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, family members and stories while your account is open. Photos are never kept. When you delete a family member or a story, it is removed. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete its data within 30 days, apart from records we must keep by law (such as purchase records).

Your choices and rights

You can see and change your family members and stories in the app, and delete family members there. To get a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and everything in it, email support@fableus.app from your account’s email address. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access limited to each family’s own account.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above, and tell you in the app when the change is important.
